THE DRESS. These two words can send even the calmest bride into a frenzy that can only be described as controlled chaos. Finding the wedding dress of your dreams takes hard work, dedication and perseverance. But when you find the one, it’s almost as satisfying and rewarding as finding the groom.
That is until you hit the alterations department. I stumbled on a blog post today regarding the high price of some alterations and it inspired me to share some information a very helpful salon owner gave me. One little tidbit of information that would change my whole dress shopping experience. I was wide-eyed and newly engaged when I put on my first wedding gown; A beautiful Maggie Sottero design, featuring a lace-up bodice (left).
Not only was the back stunning (in my opinion), it came with an added perk. It allowed for more leeway when it came to the final fit of the gown. The back could be laced up tighter or looser depending on how many cupcakes I chose to eat that week. Not only would it save me the pressure of watching every little thing I ate, it would save me some money when it came to fitting time. An important factor as most brides don’t consider alterations into their budget when it comes to the dress.
So on your next trip to the bridal salon, remember to keep checking out the backs of the gowns as well. Keep in mind your guests see your back for a large portion of the ceremony too — bonus! I ended up buying a dress with a lace up back not only for the look, but partly for the convenience of alterations — I want to look my best on my wedding day, but I also really, really like eating and don’t want to give that up.
I’ve included some beautiful lace up options (none of which are mine — just in case my fiance gets cute and starts to read Sassy Chicago Brides)!
