Every woman has a certain vision of what they imagine there wedding day to be like. But, before planning the perfect wedding, there are many things that factor in the final outcome. Some choose to go over the top, and others choose to have a much smaller, more intimate wedding; it all depends on your taste.
This year I got the chance to experience a wedding a little out of the ordinary, something I had never experienced before. For starters, it was news to me that churches in Colombia work a little different when it comes to decorating the church. If there are 5 weddings going on in one day, all 5 brides will agree on the type of floral arrangement that will be used and split the cost. Everything from the type of flower, color, and style must be agreed upon. Yikes! But, all in all, it definitely cuts down the cost that each bride has to pay for their flower arrangements, at least for the ceremony. The challenge is agreeing with the other brides.
But the simplicity and delicacy of this wedding really captured my attention. It was truly amazing to see how something so simple, can turn into something so beautiful. It was a day full of laughter, tears, excitement, and love. Everything from the ceremony to the formal brunch immediately following was simply perfect.
In Colombia the latest trend has been to have a simple brunch rather than an extravagant reception as we call it over here in the states. This keeps everything cost effective and allows the newlyweds a little more “alone time” ;-). Can’t complain about that, now can we ladies.
This wedding was held in Medellin, Colombia, where Lorena Giraldo and Sebastian Torro, exchanged their vows on December 21, 2013. The ceremony partook at a small church in the city, and the brunch was held at Estelar, one of the top (five star) hotels in Medellin.
The floral arrangements that filled the church were beautiful, the menu was simply delicious, and the dessert table was enough to leave you feeling guilty with every bite. But, there was one unique detail about this wedding that really touched my heart.
Every woman dreams of having their mother present on their wedding day. It’s a day that all mother’s dream of for their little girl. But for Giraldo, it was a day in which all she had was her mother’s beautiful memory.
Giraldo incorporated a photograph of her mother on her bouquet which to her meant that although she wasn’t alive to be physically present, she was present in spirit. At the brunch, there was a special table in the back center of the room with a picture of her mother surrounded by flowers. It was truly a unique way to incorporate the presence of someone important who was no longer with us.
That detail brought a unique sentiment; it was a beautiful way of honoring her mother’s memory.
Congratulations to the happy couple, it truly was a day to remember, and an experience worth sharing.
And they lived happily every after….
