You have chosen to share your life with another and no matter the style—large, small, formal or casual—the ceremony is the key part of every wedding day. It sets the tone for the celebration to follow and is symbolic of the start of your new life together. Though the majority of couples choose to marry in the church or parish of their youth or family, many couples are opting for less conventional settings. Homes, backyards, beaches, galleries, banquet halls and non-denominational chapels are all commonplace choices where couples say "I do." Couples of different faiths are choosing a neutral ground such as a hotel, mansion or garden where both faiths are equally represented. Other couples are marrying for the second time and choosing the site of their new home to begin their lives together. Chicago has an array of spectacular ceremony locations to accommodate every type of couple, wedding style, religion, location and need.
In addition to where you exchange your vows, the style and structure of your ceremony is equally important. Once there were only two options, civil and religious. Today's ceremonies often combine a blend of formality, spirituality and individuality. Couples are also blending elements of their culture and family traditions into their vows and ceremony. This inclusion symbolizes the continuation of old traditions and the start of their own special traditions. Couples who already have children are customizing their ceremonies to include their new family members by including an exchange of "family rings" or lighting the unity candle together as a family. Your officiant can provide guidance in planning a ceremony that most celebrates you and your spouse-to-be's desires.
It is most important to remember that whatever location or format you choose for your ceremony, it is the true declaration of your love and commitment for each other that stands out the most on your wedding day. Let this declaration and your love for one another be reflected in this celebration of your two lives joining together.
