Grooms Cake
A fresh take on an old tradition—the groom’s cake—is retaking its rightful place at the reception table.
This cake is traditionally a gift from the bride to the groom. At the height of its popularity, single women would vie for a slice, believing that they would dream of their future husband if they slept with the groom’s cake under their pillow. Today, you are more likely to find groom’s cake served as a second dessert choice or as a capper to the rehearsal dinner. Dark, often liquor-soaked chocolate or chocolate fudge, it is often given to guests for a “take home” treat or consumed by the wedding party as a post-dinner snack.
The groom’s cake also signifies the bride’s understanding of her mate’s stereotypical “backstage” role in the wedding. Because of this symbolic sacrifice, a good groom’s cake usually spotlights his personality and interests. Consider a groom’s cake shaped like a football or adorned with trinkets related to his occupation, hobbies and passions.
