Groom guidance
Once upon a time, a man and a woman met, they fell in love, the man proposed... and then the bride had no choice but to plan an entire wedding by herself, while the groom merely showed up for the ceremony. That's probably not quite the fairytale ending your bride had in mind. Your wedding day isn't just your bride's big day, it's your big day as well, so you should contribute to the planning and make all the necessary decisions with your fiancé. There are times when it's best to simply agree with your bride and say, "Great idea, honey!" Then there are times when it's better to step up and ask, "How can I help, honey?" See the difference? You can thank us later.
Getting married is the first of many big decisions you will make together, so planning your wedding should be a team effort. Not to mention, you should want a final say in what you wear, how you style your hair, who your best man will be, where you hold your bachelor party, where you hold your ceremony and your reception, what you have to eat, what music you listen to, where you will go on your honeymoon, and everything else involved in your wedding. After all, you'll have to live with those choices, so you might as well like them!
The more you work together in the planning stages, the more you'll learn to work together as a pair, as a single unit, which is what marriage is all about. Leaving your bride to fend for herself is not only inconsiderate, but you might regret it once you realize she's asked your nemesis from high school to stand up as your wing man. Instead, be sure to include yourself. Offer to run errands, attend the tasting with your caterer, mail deposits, write thank you notes, proof invitations, pick up sample bouquets, delegate other responsibilities to your groomsmen, and help out in any other way your bride may need you to. Think of it as practice for marriage: you want to be the best husband you can possibly be, so start with being the best fiancé you can possibly be.
