Getting the Flowers You Want!
Before you make a final decision, look at photos of other weddings the floral designer has done. Mass-market catalogs filled with stock photos won’t do. You want to see the real deal.
Ask friends and relatives who have had first-hand experience with a floral designer for referrals. If they have a shop or studio, visit them to get a feel for the quality of ingredients they use and the variety of their designs.
When you begin designing your floral arrangements, you should ask yourself and your florist plenty of questions. Will you need to provide flowers for both that church ans the reception hall? Can some designs be transported for use at both locations? Will you want exotic flowers for your bouquet and for your attendants' arrangements? Who delivers and sets up the flowers? How many other weddings will your florist have to prepare for on the same day?
The more you know, the easier you can budget and prepare. Think about how elaborately you would like your reception hall decorated. Be sure to pin down delivery and setup times. Too early and your flowers may wilt, especially in hot weather. Too late ans your nerves will fray. Ask about service on the day of the wedding. You don't want a designer who's already committed to three other events on your special day. Ask your potential florists to show you samples of what they have done in the past. Mass- market catalogs filled with stock photos won't do. You want to see the real deal. Bring photos of your favorite bouquets and arrangements from magazines ans websites when you meet with your florist so the designer can get a feel for your taste and style. Ask then to put together a bundle of flowers they feel would look great for your event. It's not just about the flowers themselves but how they are tired together, and with what accessories and embellishments.
Hammer out the details for your contract or receipt. Specify all of the arrangements, bouquets and decorations they will provide. Get a detailed, written description of the color and variety of flowers that will be used. You don’t want to pay for roses and end up with daisies. Finally, specify those delivery and setup times on the document.
Most of all, be sure to understand the volume of your pieces according to your budget and your contract. Don't expect huge, thick bouquets on your wedding day if your budget cannot afford it and if you fon't see a close replica of your floral arrangements beforehand.
