DJ for Your Wedding

Disc jockey entertainment is a popular form of entertainment for wedding receptions. A top quality DJ will offer versatility, both in the type of music and their style of presentation.
A disc jockey should be willing to understand your musical likes and dislikes but will also be versatile in the music selections. You should be able to choose from a program of oldies, country-western, rock, big band, or Motown sounds.
Your guests should be able to polka, waltz or do the twist. Many DJs offer ethnic music like Spanish, Italian, Irish, Polish or Greek. A good DJ will offer a little something for everyone so that guests of all ages can enjoy the music and dance. Your DJ can add to the excitement of the reception announcing the arrival of the newlyweds, introducing the wedding party, coordinating the first dance and other fun events such as the bouquet and garter toss.
When interviewing disc jockey companies, consider the following:
Do they have an extensive song inventory?
- Is their equipment current and of commercial quality?
- Do they have an attractive set-up?
- What type of special effects and lighting do they offer?
- What kind of attire do they wear?
- Are they familiar with your reception site? If so, where would be the best location for the DJ to be set up?
Be sure to request references from the DJs you interview and follow through with a few phone calls. A few questions you can ask are:
- Did the DJ fulfill the commitments set out in your original agreement?
- Was their style, dress and music choices appropriate for your wedding?
- Was the music volume appropriate?
- Did the equipment work properly and look attractive?
- Were there any problems that made you dissatisfied?
- Would you recommend this DJ?
Take an opportunity to preview their style of work. You may be able to visit them at another wedding or watch a video tape of their performance. Take the necessary time to communicate your musical likes and dislikes with your chosen DJ. If chosen carefully, your DJ will add festivity to the reception and create a memorable party for your guests.
