Sensational treats
Wedding cakes can be impressive works of art, designed in all shapes and sizes, flavors and colors, giving a great chance to express your artistic side with your wedding dessert. Whether you're interested in a traditional yellow cake with white icing and multiple tiers, or you're leaning towards a more modern design with bold colors, uniquely-shaped layers, and interesting accents, your options are limitless. Many couples design their own desserts, trading out the predictable cake for other unique options. Here are just a few modern spins on the traditional wedding cake.
PLAY WITH SHAPES
Traditional wedding cake will have an odd number of round or square tiers stacked on top of each other, graduating from largest (on bottom) to smallest. For a modern spin, design your cake in an alternative shape. If your bakery is up for the challenge, try an intricate shape, like a castle, pyramid, animal, or perhaps two swans.
PLAY WITH FLAVORS
If you and your partner would prefer the traditional look of a tiered cake, but you're interested in giving it a modern taste, try selecting a different cake flavor for each tier! Start with traditional chocolate and yellow flavors, then add your favorite flavor of cheesecake, a layer of carrot cake, a red velvet tier, or any type of cake you want! Most bakers can also add special liqueurs to the cake batter to create new flavors!
PLAY WITH ICING
While buttercream icing is best for soft, decorative swirls, flourishes, and flowers, fondant icing is your best bet for dramatic embellishments, intricate bows, and fine details. Consult with your baker about cake designs to find the right icing for your needs and taste!
PLAY WITH DECORATIONS
For a truly unique cake, add your own decorations! Drape jewels, pearls, fruit, even butterflies over the icing!
