Blossoming Romance
The Vision
The inspiration for the look really started with the venue—Pinstripes being an Italian, bocce-themed venue started the journey into "Rustica Italiana"
"Rustic, but elegant" is a request I hear frequently from clients, who desire a more natural feel to their event, while maintaining a sophisticated look. To pull these two lines of thought together, I started with the organic-feeling manzanita trees and a vintage-inspired urn, with a soft patina. Next, I started thinking of a color palette evocative of an Italian Country landscape, and what came to mind immediately was the lush plum of eggplant, paired with those wonderful terrazzo shades and the natural grays of dried herbs, basil and oregano. The trees pulled in a little espresso brown and the custom candle shades added just a touch of rusty terra cotta.
This plummy bordeaux color of the linen we chose here has become very popular, with the pintuck finish adding just the right amount of texture to tablescapes. Deep tones in your linens really allow the focus to rest on the tabletop and means that those designs can shine. The custom runner, in this case, added a bit of a shimmer, which pulled together the verdigris napkins and the soft sheen of the pearlized printed materials. This shimmery finish ending up crossing over into the cake design as well, with the fantastic creation from The Baking Institute -- perfect execution of the plum and pearlescence.
The flowers in the main design fall right in line with the natural, organic feel, with massed dutch hybrid roses "Miss Piggy", amethyst anemones, sunset-toned asiatic lilies, clematis vine, "Hot chocolate" callas, antique hydrangea and dusty miller.
The manzanita trees and chair backs were accented with blooms of deep purple Vanda orchids (Malaysian) just to balance the intensity of the linens (a Burgundy/Violet pintuck underlay, with a custom terra cotta taffeta runner).
I just love using these custom, vintage-print shades, here, for the votives, but they are also wonderful for camouflaging unwanted table items, like salt and pepper shakers. We also used them on the dessert display table, to bring elements from the dining table throughout. Here was also another opportunity to showcase the Italian theme of the event, with a Cappucino bar and Amaretti favors. These Iconic Italian biscuits we packaged in unbleached natural glassine bags, preserving a rustic, eco-friendly feel.
The inspiration for the bridal bouquet came from this same color palette, just with the intensity bumped up a little! I pulled the gorgeous deep-toned Vanda orchids and callas, and brought in the very unique and wonderful orange gloriosa lily vine and heuchera for a bold, yet organic composition. Our signature ruffle wrap, with vintage-inspired beaded trim finished it off with the perfect balance of rustic Italian and pure sophistication.
